Chapter V - SHE PICKED ME!

LITTLE DID I KNOW THEN THAT SHE WOULD LOVE ME UNCONDITIONALLY AND TEACH ME ABOUT FAMILY LIFE, LOVE AND DOING THINGS WITH CARE FOR THE COMING 38 YEARS, 6 MONTHS AND 21 DAYS

Coming from a one-parent household I didn’t know too much about parenting or how to be a good husband. Happily, Patricia knew a whole lot more about family life, having loving parents and being the oldest of seven: three sisters and four brothers.

We were quite opposites: She would be thoughtful about everything she said or did, I just said or did whatever came to my mind without any restraint When she drank one glass, I drank a bottle She would slow down for a green stoplight because it could turn orange, I would use the city as a race track I quit school at 17, she went to University at 17 She was an adult and knew about things, I pretended to be an adult and knowing everything

Anyway, I know she must have doubted a lot if a marriage with me, who seemed to be riding a rollercoaster forever, would be such a good idea.

“If you marry me I will never leave you and the children” “I don't know if I have to see that as a threat or a promise”, she said ” I think you are an asshole” ”Is that a yes?? YES, HOW MANY WORDS DO YOU NEED?

THIS BEAUTIFUL LADY DECIDED TO MARRY ME, SHE PICKED ME!

We always came too late everywhere so we didn’t want to break that tradition on our wedding day, once arrived half an hour too late, I parked the car close to the city hall in the old village of Naarden, where Patricia didn't want to step out of the car and said the words “I am not going to marry you because you are an idiot”.

“Don’t you mess up my lipstick!”

All the worried guests looked relieved that we made it to our own wedding, so our daughters handed us the wedding rings and we got married.

Patricia looked so beautiful and I felt great because we were a married couple now and she did not leave my side all day.
